A Lactation Consultant is a healthcare professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. An IBCLC is certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners ® (IBLCE ®)
Do I need a Lactation Consultant? You should see a Lactation Consultant if:
You and/or your baby are having a hard time with breastfeeding.
Your breasts or nipples hurt.
Your baby is not gaining weight very well.
You are worried about how your baby acts during or after feeding.
You are worried that you might have too much or too little milk.
Your doctor or your baby’s doctor sends you for help.
You and/or your baby are put in the hospital during the time you are a nursing couple.
A lactation consultant will help investigate what may have caused a problem and work with you to decide on a plan of care. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS ALONE!
Initial Consultation (1 1/2 - 2 hours) $120*
Includes follow up phone consultation
1 Hour Follow Up $60*
Lactation care is a covered expense in the Affordable Care Act but most insurance plans do not provide in-network providers and I cannot guarantee your visit will be covered. I will provide you with a superbill and you will have to work with your insurance company to get reimbursed.
